With Our Two Hands Aboriginal Torres Strate Islander Corporation is committed to creating and maintaining culturally safe, inclusive and empowering environments for children, young people, families and communities. As a First Nations-led organisation, we recognise that the wellbeing of children, adults and families is deeply connected to culture, Country, community, kin and self-determination.
We uphold the rights of children and young people as outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and are committed to ensuring all children and young people are protected from harm, abuse, neglect, exploitation and discrimination in all forms. The safety, dignity and wellbeing of children and young people are central to every aspect of our work and guide all decisions, relationships and practices across our organisation.
WOTHATSIC has zero tolerance for child abuse, harm, neglect or exploitation and is committed to upholding the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations across all areas of governance, leadership and service delivery.
We are committed to:
1. Commitment to a Child Safe Organisation.
WOTHATSIC has zero tolerance for child abuse, harm, or neglect. We are fully committed to being a Child Safe Organisation, aligning our practices with the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.
Protection First: We prioritise the physical, emotional, and cultural safety of all children and young people in everything we do. Listening to Voices: We actively empower children and young people to express their views, participate in decisions that affect them, and safely raise concerns. Rigorous Safeguards: We maintain strict screening, training, and reporting processes to ensure our staff, volunteers, and community spaces foster a safe, protective environment.
2. Valuing and Fostering Cultural Connections.
We recognise that for First Nations children and families, strong cultural identity and connection to Country, kin, and community are fundamental rights and the strongest protective factors for lifelong wellbeing.
Cultural Safety: We are committed to creating spaces free from racism and discrimination, where First Nations identities are celebrated, respected, and protected. Embedding Culture: We pledge to integrate cultural practices, knowledge, and perspectives into all Mullah Mara Together frameworks, ensuring our services are authentically and culturally responsive.
3. Supporting First Nations Families and Vulnerable Adults.
WOTHATSIC deeply respects the strength, resilience, and wisdom of First Nations families and communities. We are committed to standing alongside vulnerable individuals and families, providing holistic, culturally informed support.
Trauma-Informed Care: Our approach acknowledges the ongoing impacts of intergenerational trauma and colonisation. We are committed to healing-centred practices that prioritise compassion, understanding, and safe reintegration.
Self-Determination: We believe First Nations peoples hold the solutions for their communities. We commit to working in genuine partnership, elevating Indigenous voices, and supporting community-led decision-making.
Empowerment: We aim to provide the resources, advocacy, and wrap-around support necessary to empower First Nations adults and families to build skills, overcome systemic barriers, and thrive on their own terms.
Our Ongoing Pledge
For WOTHATSIC, this commitment is not a static document; it is a living pledge. We hold ourselves accountable to continuous learning, unlearning, and active listening. We promise to regularly review our policies and practices in consultation with First Nations Elders, cultural advisors, and community members to ensure we remain true to these commitments.
